Moscow street circuit project fails

A plan to race GT3 cars on the streets of Russia’s capital, Moscow has collapsed even after work on the venue had begun. SRO had planned to race its Blancpain Sprint series on a temporary street circuit which was to have been located at Lomonosov State University in the heart of the city.

However a recent decision by the Moscow city authorities have seen work on the University advanced by several weeks making it impossible to run the race.  With a very short time left before the cars were due to arrive in Russia a last minute switch of venue has been arranged and the cars will now compete at Moscow Raceway. With such limited time available it was impossible for the promoter to get all the authorisations necessary for another location in the city centre.

The program of the race will now be compressed into a two-day event (Friday and Saturday), with a Gala dinner and after-party event to be organised in the city centre afterwards. Korsa Media, who has been the promoter of several high level events at Moscow Raceway, is confident they can attract large crowds thanks to a massive promotion.
